Gregor and the Curse of the Warmbloods is the third addition to the Novel series The Underland Chronicles. Writer Suzanne Collins had achieved another best seller novel to her success list. Genre of the book is fantasy and was published in 2005.
The previous novel ended with Gregor returning to the Upperland with a scroll that Nerissa gave her. That scroll was actually the Prophecy of Blood and this was soon confirmed with a message that arrived from Vikus that the curse is upon Underland. Gregor and his father go and visit the Underland and are informed that this curse is a plague and all warmbloods have now united in order to look for a cure. Gregor’s mother does not allow him and Boots (his sister) to go back to the Underland and risk their lives. Riperd sends escorts in the form of hundreds of rats to Gregor’s apartment and this helps in convincing Gregor’s mother to let him go on a condition that she will accompany them.
The delegation of Humans, bats, cockroaches and rats all come for a meeting to find a solution for the plague. Everyone is informed by the humans that a cure, “starshade”, is available and is available in the Vineyard of Eyes.
A team is made for the quest and the rats also agree to help. In the journey to Vineyard of Eyes they find their companions who were lost when Gregor last visited the Underland. The voyage became more dangerous as it proceeded. Quicksand and flesh eating plants became a huge threat all the time they were in jungle.
Finally they make it to the Vineyard of Eyes but there is a bad news, ants have already destroyed the starshade field and now there is no hope for a plague cure. Then they are reminded of the Prophecy words: “unless this be, not the cradle, unless this be” which gives them hope that they can still find a cure. Gregor comprehends that Ares got the plague from the laboratory and not from the mites as thought before. This clarifies that the plague was a human invention and was made as a military killing weapon on the order of Vikus’s wife and Solovet.
Gregor’s mother also gets affected by the plague and now the cure which is expected to be back in Regalia is very important. Will they ever find the cure? Will Gregor’s mother survive the plague? Will Underland people fight with the situation? What will happen after this? All these questions will be answered in the adventurous Gregor and the Curse of the Warmbloods novel.
